High-end home cinema
French home cinema specialist StormAudio has announced the Core 16+, an evolution of its popular Core 16 immersive audio processor, aimed at the high-end custom installation market. The new model has expanded channel support and previously premium-only features now included as standard.
Native channel support has increased to 18 discrete outputs, enabling more ambitious speaker layouts, including popular 9.4.4 Dolby Atmos configurations. The update marks a notable development for StormAudio’s compact processor range, delivering enhanced capability without requiring a hardware redesign or affecting unit dimensions.
A key strength of the Core 16+ lies in its feature set, much of which has trickled down from StormAudio’s flagship models. Advanced processing tools, previously only available through an optional license package, now come as standard. These include Expert Bass Routing, allowing precision control of low-frequency energy across multiple subwoofers, and StormXT, which improves spatial realism by generating ambient content in silent speaker channels. Multi-zone video distribution is also supported via the built-in HDMI Dual Zone Matrix.
Format compatibility is wide-ranging, with support for Dolby Atmos, DTS:X Pro, Auro-3D, and IMAX Enhanced. Acoustic optimisation is handled via Dirac Live, with the Active Room Treatment (ART) license included, enabling real-time room correction that adapts to spatial behaviour dynamically. The processor supports up to 20 parametric EQs per channel, four-way active crossovers, and multiple subwoofers, catering for complex acoustic environments with class-leading precision.
In line with StormAudio’s forward-thinking upgrade path, existing Core 16 users can access the new features via a software-based license upgrade once their units are updated to firmware 4.7. This ensures long-term viability of earlier Core 16 installations.
